Prevention is Much Better Than All Cure

The saying goes that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  What this old saying means is that you are way better off to practice prevention rather than trying to fix something that has gone wrong after it's either almost too late or it is too late.

There are many practical applications of this wisdom; health, home maintenance, automobile maintenance, treatment of the environment, treating other people.  The list could go on and on there are that many things in this world that we need to be preventative about.

Perhaps the single biggest example is our health.  How many people ingest things into their bodies they know to be harmful yet they continue the behavior.  Cigarettes are the prime example that comes to mind.  There is a tremendous amount of education and prevention that has been done yet people still smoke knowing full well they are probably setting themselves up to have cancer or some other deadly disease in the future.

In addition to smoking weight has to be the single biggest failure of prevention in the history of humanity.  People overeat despite knowing the consequences.  Heart disease, high cholesterol, and a host of other diseases and causes of death are related to people being overweight yet the behavior continues.

Companies sell products they know are going to be addictive to overeaters, food filled with trans fat and lots of sugars.  Sometimes these products are marketed as fat free but the amount of sugars they contain make them just as bad for people as if they were full of fat yet people keep peeling back the wrappers and stuffing their faces.

The environment is another example.  In the name of progress and development we continue to tear down the world we live in.  Old growth forests, rain forests, mankind is even filling in oceans to build housing developments and commercial centers on.  All in the name of progress mankind continues to act impulsively.

What is the cost of our lack of prevention as a society?  Skyrocketing medical bills.  People around the world have to declare medical bankruptcy because they can't afford to pay their bills for the treatment the need due to their lack of prevention.

Sometimes people die before they can pay their bills then their loved ones are forced to pay the bills or the bills go uncollected.  Uncollected medical bills mean health care costs will rise which in turn raises the cost of insurance and so on down the line.

How can this problem be stopped?  By Wise Well Being!  Live your life in moderation, get plenty of exercise, eat organic food and drink pure water, and keep the pollutants out of your body and your mind.

It sounds easy enough to achieve a wise well being existence but it is difficult due to the influence of the world we live in.  The world is reactive, living to excess and then trying to fix whatever breaks next.

To live a life of prevention you must consider your choices and the consequences of your actions as you live your life.  Enjoying the present is ok, just be aware of the long lasting ramifications of the choices you are making.  In this way you can live a life that will not have dramatic problems brought on by yourself.  You can live in peace and harmony and have a wise, well being existence.
