  • Health benefits. Jumping rope is not only great for your heart, but it can help improve agility, coordination and even balance. It does take a little skill to get started, but once you do, it’s almost too much fun to stop. Jumping rope is also great for helping to build and keep up health bone structure and even muscular build up and endurance.
  • Financial benefits. It can cost a fortunate to create a home gym or even buy a membership to one. But, a simple jump rope only costs a few dollars in comparison. All that’s really required to get started is a spot for jumping, a solid jump rope and a supportive pair of shoes.
  • Variety. Jumping rope not only benefits your heart, but also your soul. This simple and inexpensive exercise can be mixed into a number of different routines or it can be done on its own to reap the cardiovascular benefits. Many adults steer clear of this fun and easy exercise for fear it will cause problems with their knees, or even that they might look a little silly doing it. Let’s bust a few of the myths that surround this great form of cardio exercise:

  • Coordination is a must. While it’s true, you will need coordination to do some advanced jump roping, the exercise itself helps build coordination. Just like riding a bike, ice staking or even writing, you have to keep up with it to reap the full benefits. You’ll get better with practice, patience and persistence.
  • It’s rough on the knees and other joints. This is not so if the exercise is done correctly. When proper technique is employed, i.e., landing on the balls of the feet rather than the heels, the impact is very minimal. Add in a good pair of athletic shoes, and there’s really no reason to fear jumping rope.
  • It’s too strenuous. This simply isn’t so. Jumping rope, just like any other exercise, will require you to build up as you go, but it’s not necessary to tire yourself out to get a good workout in. Just do what you can today and add a few more seconds or minutes tomorrow.

Jumping rope is great for your heart, bones, muscles and your wallet. With these combined, it’s hard to go wrong with this exercise.
